Hey guys I was wondering if you had any advice on the best way to change trap & gate bands. I'm running Christie M35GPS heads on SLC Consoles. My problem is mainly the gate bands, Is there any issues with alignment I should be concerned about. It seems like a lot of tension is required. Is this true? Any tips would be most helpful.

There are alignment issues with the lateral guide rollers, but not much to replacing the bands. What exactly is the problem you are seeing?

If you are seeing lots of horizontal weave, you need Christie's gate alignment tool (#SK1994-3)

If you are finding that you have to crank the gate tension to 4 or 5, you can use my trick of sandwiching a thin piece of cardboard (like the kind from the back of a note pad of paper) behind the bands at the top.

Great response time. To the best of my knowledge I have both of these problems. a lot of horizontal unsteadiness as well as the issue of having the tension knobs at roughly 4 on the setting which I have been told is tighter than normal. I clean my LGR's (Lateral Guide rollers) about twice a month as well as Lubricating the rails w/ Xekote. I however still have unsteadiness issues constantly. So as an attempt I thought changing the trap/gate bands would be a formidable solution. (bands are also knicked from FORMER projectionist using razor blade to remove deposits) which has been replaced by a guitar pick. What are your thoughts on all this. I would love to know what you think before I start into my maintenance. Regardless you've be a great help.
