Hi everyone!

In Italy we are now showing "Finding Nemo" from Disney. I found that the frame is veeeery precise, in my "perfects" screen (where 1.85 is saw just for half when RP40 is projected!) the frame fits exactly the screen, I can see black bands if I go slighty out of frame. No problems, since none of my screen project more than 1.85. But I also noted that the same thiny bands can be seen at the side of the screen, like the aperture plate is too large (or the lens is not correct). I checked with RP40 and I noted that the black band is INSIDE the RP40 specifications. Is the same there in US?

A consideration on Sound Mix (and I didn't had time to see the movie at the moment - someone else screened it for me!): Nemo is supposed to be a movie for child. Why has it a sound mix like "Star Wars"??? Beautiful, but it seems a bit inappropriate for me... What do you think?

I thought that Nemo was one of the best-sounding mixes that I've heard in a long time. It sounded great, as far as I was concerned.

"Finding Nemo" was one of the few movies that could play at "7" without scaring the horses.

The kids here loved that movie. Come to think of it, so did the adults! [thumbsup]

I remember Finding Nemo being a very aggressive, but great mix. I played it in DTS, and I remember dialog moving across the front channels to follow the "actors."

Disney animations are generally at 1.75:1, a curious halflife between 1.66:1 and 1.85:1. I don't know if they are supposed to be less than .825" wide, though. Does anyone know what the spec is for that and where it originated (or who to ask?).

1.75:1 was an established aspect ratio recognized by ANSI PH22.195-1984 and ISO 2907. It also is listed in a 1955 publication by the Motion Picture Research Council. Projectable image area is 0.825 x 0.471 inches (20.96 x 11.96mm). The current SMPTE 195 does not specifically list 1.75:1.

Now that a significant portion of a production's market is VIDEO release, composition for the 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio is a high priority consideration.

are you running a dubbed version or the english language OV ?
I have noticed that many films dubbed to foreign languages sound more aggressive because the dialogue is mixed louder in respect to the rest of the soundtrack.

My flat screen is 1.77. We had a very small black strip on each side. We play analog sound, the mix was very good.

The Pacific Valley Plaza 16 in Bakersfield seems to use 1.78 (or somewhere around that) as well for flat. 1.85 movies with hard-matted fx shots, as well as hard-matted previews, show with black bands on both top and bottom of the image. (They once listed screen dimensions on their film schedule. I was able to calculate that ratio with the given height/width info).

I'm running dubbed version but, usually, the problem is the contrary, too soft dialogues!! However, nothing to say to the mix, great (with the voices following the actors in Italy too!!) but just too aggressive for the target, IMHO!
