What are the latest DD trailers called? Dolby are having a promotion here where if you buy a USHIO xenon, you get a free DD trailer.

I just want to make sure they're not old stock. There was one at least made after AURORA, right?

IHMO, pretty much all the DD trailers made after "Rain" and "Aurora" were pretty boring. The "Waterfall" EX trailer? Ugh! Even "Rain" and "Aurora" were not very impressive. "Train" and "City" are still my favorites.

To provide balance (so as not to single out Dolby), many of Lucasfilm's recent THX trailers have been boring. Not impressed with "Broadway 2000" and "Cavalcade" was pretty much a retooling of the "T2 THX" trailer from the DVD. "Cimarron" and "Grand" (both more than a decade old) are still by far my favorite THX trailers. I would play them ahead of any of the others.

DTS? Who knows when they're going to get a new trailer made? And that really stinks considering you see the DTS piano trailer on DVD just about as much as the THX "Broadway" clip.

I belive "stomp" was the last one. Got 2 of them form dolby about less then a year ago. It doest say "dolby digtal" its just says "dolby" but it is in EX. Never seen the whole thing, except the end of it. But what the others tell me is that all it really is a bunch of people stomping there feet.

Our customers really like the STOMP trailer. They also like TRAIN and CITY.

Dolby is out of CITY trailers for now.

This is just ridiculous!

A lamp by Ushio does not impact the soundtrack in any way. Theatres should get a Dolby trailer if they have Dolby equipment.

When I think of the tens of thousands spent on Dolby equipment it is indeed irksome to think that all I needed to do was purchase Ushio lamps if I wanted to the trailers.

It also bothers me to think that there are quite possibly some crappy-sounding theatres running the trailers and giving Dolby a bad name by running the trailers even though they are not Dolby-equipped.

And which trailer did they give away? I'm betting it was a "Digital" trailer.

To answer the question, the newest trailer is called "Perspectives" (a.k.a. "Stomp").

As for the "City" trailer, I am unclear as to why it is not available. Does anybody know if/when it will return?

AFAIK, the "Train" trailer was yanked due to complaints about damage to equipment. That trailer was subsequently remixed and reissued.

I got one with my last order of a lamp for my families cinema, it was the DD "Perspectives" logo/tag.

It's just a promotional gimmick from a technical supply company here. You only get it if you mention it, they won't tell you about it, plus it is a DD OR DTS logo offer. [Smile]

As far as someone running a tag in an analogue theatre, most complexes, even singles or twins in Australia, have at least one digital house. But the tag's do sound crap in analogue!

BTW Here in Australia if you normally want DD Logo's you have to buy them! Last I heard they were about $90AUS, $63US dollars.

I've asked my manager to order more, but he has yet to get around to it. Then I was talking with another manager today (not the booth manager and someone that runs projection quite often) says not to put them on because this person is tired of having to take them off when prints move around. As if this is terribly difficult to do. This person also claims no one cares if those trailers are on there. Of course, there are some that like it and for those few, it is usually a nice suprise. I'm sure that few people really HATE the sound snipes. Ok, I'll stope ranting but dang: it's 5am, I just finished Return of the King, and I had some stuff on my chest. Yikes! G'day to all.

Manny in many markets there is sufficent duty and taxes on even promotional items that they are anything but free and I see absolutly nothing wrong with a dealer providing them as an incentive with sales considering they had to pay the import cost

Gord, I have to pay duty tax on my trailers when they come in so I'm not totally naive to the fact that some people are not getting them "for free."

Bottom line: I don't care if people have to pay for the trailers. They should not be eligible to receive them if they don't have the proper playback equipment in the first place.

If a dealer wants to give them away as a sales incentive then he should hang onto them and give them to people who purchase (or recently purchased) Dolby processors.

Well the Dolby Stomp tag we got just says Dolby not DD, so that is why I am happy to run it, we don't have digital. People like it.

Having just viewed the trailer for The Polar Express, I think it would be cool for Dolby to get together with the studio and produce a variation on their Dolby Digital Train trailer to go with the theme of this movie.

You'd have me believe that Dolby has a gang of trailer checkers on the payroll? Trailer checkers who -- by the way -- also happen to know the contents of every theatre rack in their region?

I also recieved a free Dolby tag with my Ushio lamp order as it was a promotion mentioned in the latest Atlab news letter.Some months ago I recieved after emailing Dolby UK 4 Dolby tags free of charge, which by the way i was most gratefull as our current ones at the time were worn. They were more than happy to help.

I know of quiet a few theatres that have recieved letters threatening legal action if they don't drop the dolby name from there ads when they didn't have dolby equipment

People don't always agree with you. Get over it.

Just because you know of a couple of theatres who got busted does not mean that Dolby is "up to date" or "fully aware" or whatever....

All it means is that you know of a couple of theatres who got busted. It's a gigantic leap to then declare that Dolby has a network of trailer spies.

Back to the original argument: Using lamps by Ushio does not guarantee that a Dolby processor is present. If Dolby is so intensely aware of who has (or doesn't have) Dolby equipment then why would they participate in this stupid scheme?

It just doesn't make sense. None of it.

Manny if the processor/digital that they have a is a DA20 and or any dolby processor they can with in limits legalaly advertise dolby (ie a DA 20 with brand x processor) =dolby digital or a DTS with a Dolby CP processor = dolby stereo

Oooooh, I know of people with SDDS on top of a CP65. I guess technically they could advertise "Dolby digital", since that is precisely what they are offering.

Me, I am still running the "The following presentation is in Dolby Stereo" trailer they made 20, maybe 30yrs ago....hehe. Big ole Double-Dee and the word DOLBY as big as a house; I'd say 75% of the audience just registers the Dolby name and that is good enough for them -- they probably assume it's digital. Well it aint unless it comes with DTS disks....and like, how often is THAT actually gonna happen on second run titles? [Roll Eyes]

Plus, I just got my spanking new JBL trailers in (free, thank you JBL) but have yet to check them out. I used to use the Smart "Wide Screen Stereo" trailer that has a fantastic organ crescendo at the end that rocked the walls, but unfortunately it also had a voice-over the music that said, "This feature film is presented in WIDE....Wide....wide SCREEN....Screen.....screen STEREO....Stereo....stereo. (ECHO....Echo...echo)" The voice-over became a bit to tiresome for my tastes so I retired the thing, but I sure did love those organ basso profundus peddle cords at the end....talk about stressing your system to find the distortion threshold -- read: let's see where are those subs are gonna crack!

Anyone know if Dolby still makes those analog tags? It should would be nice to get some new ones.

"Temple" is all Dolby is currently offering as far as analog-only trailers.

The new "Perspectives" trailer is an SR/SRD trailer but it just says "Dolby" which means we can use it to promote analog systems.

The "Mancini" trailer and the "Listen" test film are out of print, too. Anyone still got either of those?

At The Alexandria theatre here in SF they have Dolby Digital in the downstairs main house, and two upstairs auditoriums with mono sound. (The last two mono houses in SF.) They are pretty good with the advertising in the newspapers not to advertise any digital sound for movies showing in the upstairs auditoriums. However, once in a while a film that was showing downstairs last week and gets moved upstairs might still have the dolby digital advertisement on it. It happens, and nobody's perfect. However, I once saw the Dolby Digital egypt trailer run in an upstairs mono house on a film (Training Day) that had just been moved upstairs from the week before. Ooops! (But I also wondered if the rest of the audience really even noticed or cared.)

We're using a new print of an old CITY trailer just ahead of LORD OF THE RINGS 3, and its soundtrack hammers the speakers and does a good job of getting customers' ears ready for the feature.

We're using PERSPECTIVES on BAD SANTA, and it's appropriate, too. Its EX track adds to its effectiveness.

It'd be good if Dolby would come out more often with new trailers, say, like one each month.

I would honestly be a little nervous about running "City" ahead of LOTR 3 because we're playing that movie above our usual fader settings.

At those levels, "City" would be VERY LOUD! [Eek!]
