Had a couple of prblems with used prints recently, SWAT & Elf. Print are cleaned used USA prints. Visually they are fine but have had some prblems with the SRD reverting constantly.

Have done a full SRD line up and have a couple of questions.

Having used a caliobrated film to do the SRD setup I am happy that the soundheads are lined up correctly, at least to the specifications that came with the film.

However when using WinDras or the Dos version the error levels don't match whats showing on the front of the DA20?

I am getting green across the baord running familiar film. However the two films in question have great differences througout the prints. Loss of corners, asimth, and width. To such an extent that its red across the board. However the error rates displayed by the software are still in an acceptable range, while the DA20 will be showing something very different and vias versa.

Question.. which is the more accurate, the DA20 disply or the DRAS software.

The prints in question now run at a steady 6, 6. 7 and having taken a reading recording over the whole print have about a dozen or so reversions, mostly at the part joins, which is much better than when they were first run.

Hi Ken.
Ive had odd effects with windras, but dras seems to be alot more reliable. Prints sound like they have been printed wrong, does the data block look like it is bang in the middel of the perfs, but this doesnt explain the different error rate readings.

Sounds like a call to dolby is required otherwise. Is it a DA20 or CP500/650?

I never get any Error-rate readings! I get Jitter, Fosus etc. but no Error rate. Is this a known problem of the software and/or the Da 20 or has it something to do with my laptop?

i recently developed the same problem when i upgraded my firmware (at least that appear to be the cause).

let compare systems.

cp650 with firmware 2250
bacp dstr-20 reader
xp vaio laptop
dras 1036

I had the same problem, the error rate would not rear on the dras problem, it would on the CP-500 but not on the laptop ??

I've had situations where DRAS tells me everything is fine, but the DA-20 won't track. Use a scope and check for jitter on the right-hand goalpost - I've had this problem where Dras can't see the jitter especially with Ernemanns with basement readers. Usually a bad/improperly tensioned/backwards belt.

What are the details for your system...perhaps we can find a commom thread.

I tried a usb to serial adapter to eliminate the the theory of a bad port (i.e.pin). still no error rate info in dras.

I also tried re-upgrading the firmware. No effect.

I will try a second computer soon, and downgrading the firmware when I find and old .bin file.

Does anyone know the pin usage for DRAS? Might help.

Does anyone know of a dras alternative? (i may try the old DOS dras).

John I use the serial cable, tried reloading the program, still no error rate shown on Dras, I have Dolby Cinema Resources Disk issue 4....I now have Dolby's newest issue 6, I will try loading that version & see...the old version use to work great, went to use (maybe 8-months later) cannot get it to work...suck part was I on the island of St. Maarten servicing a 4-screen theatre there & was changing out the Dolby 701 reader LED's..I went back to the old way of aligning with just the scope... but Dras is much easier...
