I have a 5Star with exciter lamp and an USL JS-200. Recently, the system has experienced periodic massive drops in sound level. I checked the mechanical alignment and it looks good. Other than maybe instability of the exciter supply, is there a known problem with level drift in USL processors?

Nope, nothing intrinsic about its stability (other than the relays on the EQ cards and the power supply external switch listed elsewhere.

check the bypass button on the format card. I have had problems with this. Sometimes it will cause a channel to drop out like the center channel. You can wiggle the button and you will here the channel come back on. I usually turn the unit off between a show and push the button in and out several times and the problem usually stays away.
Another thing to check is to make sure that the switch on the format card is not in the remote fader setting. This will cause the sound levels to drop tremendously.
