Is anyone here benching these amps to replace scratchy pots, and if so, is there a common part number for them? Seems I'm getting more than my share of dropouts lately. I inherited these 1400s when I took the theatre over, so I don't know for sure how old they are... I suspect at least 6 years + though.

I believe that the 1400 series is at least a dozen years old. I have rack full of them and swear by them. The only problem I've ever had is with an an on/off switch going bad.

Although I've had my share of failures with the 1200's, 1400's, and USA 900's I still like em alot and their sound quality is excellent! Never had a pot failure in one though.

WD-40 works wonders for noisy pots. Now everybody will tell you to use contact cleaner,but contact cleaner always evaporates. The WD-40 doesn't. Use sparingly. A little goes a long way and clean up the excess.

WD 40 has some solvents that carbon pots will not like
MG chemicals makes excellent cleaner call nu trol that cleans the contacts and leaves a lubricant

Nu-trol Control Cleaner kicks the llama's ass. Don't even bother with WD-40.

Unlike WD-40, Nu-trol won't eat plastic.

Hmmmm... must be our tropical Seattle-area climate... or maybe because these things sat in their racks for about 2 years in an unheated theatre. I have a couple of pots that flat drop out from time to time (gotta wiggle them a bit), and 3 or 4 that are noisy.

I'll check into that Nu-Trol.... but mainly because I want to see what a llama looks like with a seriously-kicked ass! [Big Grin]

They stock Nu-trol Control Cleaner here in Olympia at Electronic Resourcing. That's where I get mine from.
