We've been playing "Monster" for a few weeks now in our one Digital house, and just moved it to our smallest Analog house. In Digital, the sound was just fine; but, for some reason, the overall analog sound level seems extremely low.

We played "The Cooler" in this same house for a while, and often had complaints of the film being too loud. No settings have been changed between the two films, except that "The Cooler" was "too loud" at a level of 6.5, and "Monster" is "too quiet" at a level of 8 (this is on the Ultra Stereo JS-200.) I'm afraid to turn it up any more for fear of the louder trailers blowing the speakers (because the trailers seem quite loud enough at 7.)

Is anyone else playing "Monster" in an analog house and experiencing a similar issue?

we've switched it between digital and analog houses many times and i haven't noticed this. often i do tweak the level in the analog houses based on audience numbers and what sounds loud enough. but it's a matter of 6-6.5, nothing like 6.5-8 as you describe.

I ran it at 7 tonight and it sounded fine to me. The music had a very "full" sound to it.

I would check out your LED and swap out your format card with another house, see if that makes any difference.

No problems at the 6-plex. We have it at ~6.5-7 (same as all other features) and it sounds fine in SR with a CP500. We always run trailers at 4.5.

If a reel was not properly applicated to redevelop silver in the soundtrack area, it would have a VERY low level on a white-light reader. A non-applicated "high magenta" track would have a low level on both a white-light and a red LED reader. But such a mistake would usually only affect one reel of the feature, since the reels of a feature are usually processed on different days, and likely different processing machines. Just in case, look at the analog soundtrack --- you should see the dark gray of the silver over a dark blue or magenta coloration from the dyes in the track.

I'll check the LED and the soundtrack tonight. Can't swap out cards, unfortunately, since each house has a completely different hodge-podge of equipment - no two use the same processors, amps, or readers.

The trailers sort of confirm that the system is working so I would bet it is the recording level on the print
