We will be loosing our last 70mm equipped theatre here, Trolley Corners, in Salt Lake City the end of this month and would like to do a 70mm fest the last two weeks its open Does anyone know who the contact at Paramount is for booking 70mm features? Do they have a classics department that does this?
We have been able to book both Lawrence Of Arabia and 2001 so far but unreturned calls from Fox have left us scurrying to find other films to book.
Anyone ideas or known titles available would be appreciated!!!

The Sony Pictures Repertory website at www.sonypicturesrepertory.com has several titles listed as being available in 70mm. The contact that I have used for booking is Michael Schlesinger at 310-244-5683.

From Paramount that I personally know of...
A hacked up frankenstein print of Top Gun.
An excellent print of Hunt for Red October.
An excellent print of Days of Thunder.
A partial print of Spaceballs and something else in the cans for The Untouchables.
The Northpark print of Titanic which has been so nicely damaged by schmuck operators elsewhere.
A very brittle, spliced to hell and brown print of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I'm probably forgetting some. I'll try to look up the Paramount Repertory contact and post it tomorrow.

When they did the Cinerama/70MM Wide Screen Festival at the Cinerama here in Seattle the 70MM prints they got from Sony included:
Total Recall
Ghostbusters
Lawrence of Arabia
Krull, the Conqueror
Silverado
plus they ran a 70MM 30fps of OKLAHOMA
The projectionist told me most of those prints, excluding OKLAHOMA ran fine and looked OK.
OKLAHOMA (not sure who has distribution) has a slight vinegar smell and, as John Pytlak attests to, had a sticky mag track which the 70MM Kinotone didn't like very much. They had a problem with a fuse blowing in a motor because the mag track didn't make it through the runner plate very well. Had to back off the tension on the runner plate and all was fine.

We had three 70mm theaters, all within the lower Connecticut area, but soon the equipment will be changed out in one, and we closed another awhile ago. That leaves one left.... ho-hum. Between the cost of the print and unskilled operators, few can maintain them.

Thanks for the info guys!! Mike Olpin, Was not aware you were fomr around here...... Its not the theatres at Trolley Square... Those closed during the Loews-Cineplex Bankruptcy a number of years back. They have been re-opened by Madstone as an Art film location, they did a very nice job on it too. The Madstone is definately SLC's Nicest Art Film location. The other Art houses here in SLC, the Broadway(ex Loews location and the location of the famous old Centre Theatre), and the Tower Theatre with its wood floors and the worlds worst seating suck big time. Usual stuff wrong with them, poor to no maintainance, movable masking that isn't working, etc. and the places are usually very filthy. If I there is a film I want to see there I will wait and see if the Madstone picks it up, If not then I'll wait and watch it on DVD!

Yep, I lived out in West Jordan up to the age of 4 - when I moved to California. We would pass the water tower marquee almost daily, to get Mom from work. I really only remember seeing two movies when I lived in Utah. I saw Song of the South at a Plitt theatre, although I don't know which one. I saw Roger Rabit at a Mann theatre next to a Leatherby's. Using CinemaTour, I think it was the Mann 5-6-7.
I still love visiting that area, althogh West jordan has really grown! It used to just be the small airport, a 7-11 & a Reeme's on one side of the train tracks, and a whole bunch of housing on the other side. Now it's a giant suburb community!
Wow. I really drifted off topic there.
(EDIT: Now that I think about it, roger rabit was on a trip visiting SLC when I was 6)

Hi Mark, Paramount has very nice unfaded 70mm prints of all three Indiana Jones movies, however the prints I'm talking about are in Toronto. You can reach their Booking Dept. at 416-969-9901 and ask to talk to Perry Persad, the nicest guy you'll ever talk to at a major studio.
