Greetings all,

In light of the post concerning the ill effects of using compressed air to clean projectors, I decided to start wiping them down after each show instead using a rag in my back pocket. The problem is only one of our 22 projectors (Simplex PR2000 Milleniums) has a film gate that slides out far enough to fit your hand in the space between the studio guides and the shutter window. When I took apart one of our gates, I noticed that the stop position is dictated by the length of two white nylon strips that rest between the bearings in the "linear bearing assy."

My question is: could you simply trim the lengths of each band slightly to increase the stop distance, or is there are better way to go about doing this?

There are also two screws that can be loosened to make the depth setting adjustment. I've had to do this on a couple of machines that constantly were slammed shut by stupid people and the gate ended up going too far into the trap to even run film. I believe that the nylon stops just determine how far the linear bearing actually slides while the gate position adjustment that is comprised of the two screws secusing the gate assy to the bearing determines the depth and untimately how far it will open.

If you call Strong Monday morning they will fill you in as to the exact adjustment procedure, its pretty easy but I don't remember the exact clearance specs that you need to know. What ever you do don't cut the nylon stoppers till you've talked to them. Why they like to use nylon for stoppers I'll never know [Roll Eyes]

. Every situation I can think of that they've used it in it gives torowing things out of alignment. Probably the best know were the nylon screw turrett stoppers.

I suppose they were using nylon because it's softer, to prevent the idiots from pulling the gate OUT too hard [Roll Eyes]

! I looked up and down for those screws that you mentioned and the only ones that I found were set screws that [made the lateral movement stiffer]. But I shall call them. Thanks for the help!
