Is there such a thing? I need to know what range of amps to run my Osram XBO 700w/hs at; the box doesn't tell me. I've been running at 29 amps, not sure if that's too low.

its volts X amps = wattage

696 Watts
If your DCV is running to low the 29 amps when multiplied with that number will not add up to the desired wattage of the bulb.

actaually it is va not watts.
wattage is a unit of power and volts x amps would be true for DC but not ac for ac it is volts x amps x powerfactor this becomes an issue with reactive loads such as motors

According to this document from Osram, the lamp should operate optimally at 18 volts and 37 amps (range of 30-45 amps).

Actually Gord M, since in a dc circuit the pf=1, watts would still be correct.

exactly the formula still has PF in it just in the case of DC it is 1 but an important factor to remember in AC issues especially around motors and transformers

You're right McGord, I *ALWAYS* think about power factor whenever I walk by a motor or transformer...or even a capacitor.
