Has anyone come across Toshiba Photophone 35/70mm projectors? I was thinking about purchasing it so I wanted to know what you think about it.

The Photophone machines are very rugged but requires a good projectionist to handle the machinery. Parts are still available from Japan and Chennai.

Toshiba had 2 different 35/70mm machines I believe the Crown and the Imperial One of them was a BX100 with photophone soundheads on steroids and the other was a DP70 lookalike with a lot of Brenkert when you opened the door

I briefly owned a pair of the Crown DP-70 look alikes and they were really not very good. The pair I got came out of a porno house in Oakland, CA. They had a gear stripping problem that was never really resolved and hence not many pair were sold here in the states. They were quickly relinquished to the Chicago Cinema Museum where at least one of them still resides today. There is a photo of it in the F-T picture warehouse. There was a collector in Sun City, AZ., now deceased, that had a pair of the Brenkert look alikes and reports from friends that visited him said he ruined alot of mint I.B. Tech prints on them.

I still have a Japaneese 16/35 projector head that is missing the 16mm parts. i'd like to aquire them if anyone knows where I might get them. Will post the name of the manufacturer when I get back.... but its definately not Toshiba Photophone. There are some Phillips similarities in this machine though.
