On Friday I noticed our print of Chronicles Of Riddick had
a badly-made-but-in-rack splice in the final reel(no. 8),
before the splice Riddick is sat on a throne (not 'the throne'
as that would be silly), after the splice the scene is
lots of spaceships heading in to the sun-set.

I didn't assemble the print (being on holiday, the day the
print arrived), otherwise I'd have acted sooner. Also reel
7 was platter scuffed. The entire print was "mix and match"
but UIP's cheapness in re-using knackered prints from "other
territories" is well-known.

Getting back to the point, I requested replacement reels 7
and 8. Our film booker told us to expect a whole print.

The replacement print (which was also "re-used") arrived, one
of my colleages assembled it. I asked him about reel 8, and
he says it is exactly the same.

Today (here in the UK) is a bank holiday, so I asked the
general manager to request a second replacement reel 8
tomorrow.

In the mean-time, I checked with the UK censor (the BBFC),
to find out if any cuts were made. Answer: Passed uncut.

Is it just print numbers USA1570 and USA1875 of "Chronicles
Of Riddick" that have a bit of the final reel missing?

I'd appreciate replies (here) from anyone who has handled
(or even watched on 35mm), did the copy you handled/watched
have a splice in reel 8, just before the credits start?

I'm trying to find out if I'm wasting my time with requesting
replacement reels from UIP, if it looks like they will all be
like the two reel eights I've had so far. I'm sure some of our
customers will be asking "what's missing" as the splice is in
such an obvious place.

I just walked by our print of Riddick and it also has a splice right near the credits.
The scene is mr. Diesel sitting on a throne, then the camera pulls back and Judi Dench has as bit of speak. Right after she stops talking there is a tape splice. It does look suspicious, but the member of staff who watched it did'nt report back about anything missing...

Now i'm getting curious... I may have to watch it myself to see what's going on.
