I am running Kinoton FP30 projectors and up until my last service, I regularly would lubricate the projector rollers with a fine grade sewing oil.

The service tech had an unusual way of twisting up an old rag and feeding it through the rollers and 'dry cleaning' the roller.

I understand the rollers are meant to be self lubricating, however is this a common practice amongst the techs on this site?

I trialled it last night and the rollers are spinning freely.

Hi Chris,
Dont use oil at all on your rollers.All you have to do is clean the shaft and the center of the roller.This is all you need to do as the rollers on Kinoton are not to be oiled.I have put a white dot on the rollers so i can see much easier if they are turning freely or not.They turn freely with out any form of lube and will run ok for some time before you have to remove them again.Using any form of lube will attract dust and stuff and cause the rollers to stop turning.I have been using Kinotons for a number of years and have never used oil etc on rollers the same also applies to the Kinoton platters as well.

Yes it certainly makes a lot more sense to do it this way.

The shafts that our platter rollers (Cinemeccanica) spin on have developed a little rust over the years due to the coastal climate conditions up here.

I thought that a little oil would slow down this process.
