I know the ORC M-1000 needs a 700 watt bulb, not a 1000 watt. I am wondering if one brand is better than another. I could buy a 700 Watt Christie or an LTI. Is one better than the other? I know the Christie bulbs have a good reputation (judging from the older posts). Are there any brands to avoid? By the way, the Christie bulb looks to be about $10 cheaper than the LTI. Thanks for your advice.

I always favor the Christie lamps. They have given all my customers the best service of all lamps out there.

Recommendations.
Osram for ultimate reliability. The Best.
Ushio great second choice and a bit cheaper. The Japanese know how to make lamps.

Avoid like the plague!
ALL ORC lamps. They're junk.
Any Wacom lamp
Any Toshiba lamp

LTI, Christie, Sylvania, Philips... can't comment.

These are my recommendations only and no doubt someone will pipe up and say that Osram and Ushio are shit.

Larry, xenons can be a personal choice. One can not have had a failure of a particular brand and say wonderous things about them, when someone else could have been on the receiving end of a bad batch of the same brand and have had nothing but trouble.

One thing to check for is the pro-rata warranty period. You may find that the more expensive lamps have a longer warrenty period and may come in handy if you have an early failure.

You get what you pay for.

We use primarily LTI's and Christies. The LTI's are reasonably good, but seem to darken a bit faster than the Christies, at least in my experience. The big difference, so I'm told, is that if an LTI lamp explodes in the lamphouse, LTI will replace the lamp AND reflector for free.

With the Christie - Ushio & Sylvania - Osram thing, are the Christies/Sylvanias badge engineered by Ushio/Osram or a specific line?
In Oz, Wotan were Osram for a while, no longer though.
