I know we have discussed the possibility of using the CP55 as a surround EX adapter instead of the SA10. Is it possible to do the same with a CP65? I have an extra CP65 that I would like to put to use instead of leaving it in storage. The processor I am using currently is the CP500D.

Yes, it will work just as easily.

You will have to make the CP65 switch between Matix decode and Non Matirx decode from Line level sources,
Spend the moeny and get the SA10 with the Auto EX board which detects the ex flags in the Metadata.

"get the SA10 with the Auto EX board which detects the ex flags in the Metadata"

And listen to the noise on it's output, and not be able to eq it too well either! If I was in the situation where I had a spare CP55/CP65 sat idle and wanted EX I'd rig it, not pretty, and not as operator friendly, but it'd likely work better.

However if I didn't have one handy an SA10 would have to suffice, or maybe the DTS or the Panastereo.

Oh the Panastereo SP23-30 pretty well spanks the SA-TEN and I prefer it to other solutions. One can have all three channels with 1/3-Octave EQ, hard relay bypass in the even of failure and all four surround zones are independantly adjustable for perfect balance...and the kicker...meters on the front of the unit for calibration (and signal checking).

The only thing it is really lacking (other than possibly a 4th 1/3-ocatave or parametric EQ) is the auto EX feature. Then again, it is a whole lot less than the SA-TEN too.
