One of my theaters has an old CP65 that works like a horse. Until recently it has rarely given us problems. I've only noticed this in the previews but whenever a splice goes through it sends an ungodly loud rumble through the auditorium. I think that when a splice goes through it quickly causes the CP65 to drop out of SR-D into another format (which is when the rumble starts) but then quickly goes back into SR-D (which is when the rumble stops). Any clues as to what might be causing this?

And apparently a massively misaligned (therefore rumbling) optical system.

Agreed with Mike. [Eek!]

Your splicer isn't cutting the film cleanly and your A-chain is seriously misaligned. Make your tech fix your splicer while he is out there.
