We are desperately trying to find good prints of Logan's Run (was there a 70mm print?) and American Werewolf in London as they seem as rare as roching horse [bs]

in the UK?

Can anyone help please we need them for screenings in March as part of a Jenny Agutter retrospective in this year's Bradford Film Festival.

In 1976, I believe Logan's Run played at the K-B Apex theatre in Washington, DC in 70mm as that theatre's last feature before closing.

This is a little off-topic, but when "Logan's Run" was released on Laserdisc in letterbox format, I was surprised at how crisp and clean the soundtrack was, given its age. It really stood out. Probably would have sounded great played back in a good theater with mag sound.

When "Logan's Run" opened in Los Angeles, it played Pacific's Cinerama Dome in 70MM. MGM installed a CP-100 for that engagement. After that run, it moved-over to the Fox Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills in 70MM.

The film was a MGM film, but released through United Artists at that time in the US. Today the film is under the Warner Bros. banner.

The only thing left of that 70MM print is the memories.

"Logan's Run" - in 70mm was an excellent release. Saw it in SLC, Utah at the old Centre Theatre downtown (they were using Bauers and Strong 13.6mm carbons lamps) in that summer of '76 at a special midnight showing FREE when you acquired that "gem" that could be placed in the palm of your hand. Then went back three more times, for I really liked that movie.

(do we remember her in Nick Roeg's 1971 "Walkabout", an excellent TV movie called "Man in the Iron Mask", which was before "Logan's Run", then her playing against hideous Chucky in "Child's Play II?)

Yes, the DVD issue is great!

No Jenny Agutter retrospective is compleat without "China 9, Liberty 37" (1978).

She may wish the world would forget it, but if one wants to see .. uhm ... the 'most' of her 'talents', that's one film of hers to see. Or, at least, a few scenes from it. [Big Grin]

The rest is pretty much a forgetable Spaghetti Oater.

She's one of the all-time Babes-of-film, IMHO ... and a very gracious lady, by all accounts. Wish I could be there to actually see her in person.

In the B-movie "Hollywood High" near the beginning they drive by the Cinerama Dome where Logan's Run is playing.

BBFC thinks that the last print was struck in 1976, so it looks like getting hold of it is going to be tricky.

Sorry if this is stating the bleedin' obvious, but I take it that you've tried the National Film and Television Archive? This isn't an option if your screenings are in Pictureville (unless you've now got the DP70 and Vic 8 configured for 35mm changeovers) because they don't allow their prints to be plattered. But if you have or they're in the Broccoli, it's just worth checking - give Bryony Dixon or Kathleen Dickson a call on 020 7255 1444. If they do have prints you'll need to clear the rights separately, but for a studio feature this is usually no more of a hassle than going through their normal booking procedure and simply paying the invoice (i.e. percentage/MG or flat rate) minus the Securicor component.

I suspected as much! We had a group trip there before christmas, but I couldn't make it due to being ill. Figures [Smile]

And I guess if anyone's going to be allowed to show rare prints here, it'll be you. The BFI occasionally grants one of our requests for an old feature, but it's not a frequent occurence.
