I am having a problem with one of our V5's. I came in to work today to find the bulb not igniting at all. It made no noise. I found a blown relay and replaced it. Now the bulb will light, but only if I hit the manual ignite button. It does not make any striking sound.
Any suggestions to what the problem may be?
Will manually igniting the bulb every time have any long term affect on teh striker and/or relay?

any help would be much appreciated.
If you need any more info let me know I will be here till 6.

At our ten-plex (we use Strong lamps with a 4500w lamp) the tech recently disconnected the lamp dowser from the auto system at company request (for reasons yet unexplained) and at times there has been problem with the auto striker. So I strike all ten lamps manually and operate the dowser manually. There has been a couple of times the lamp on a couple of the machines would not strike so I had to trip the circuit breaker on the rectifier. After I start the projector I put the lamp back in the auto mode so it will shut off but at least I always have light when I hit the screen. I don't forsee any problem with your striking the lamp manually.

In a Strong lamphouse (and basically every other that I know), the douser has absolutely nothing to do with the xenon lamp circuit. The lamp is struck by the auto-strike circuit which is triggered by the zener diode assembly, or if that doesn't work, or the auto-strike relay is gone, by the manual strike button. The auto mode is nothing but a setting that makes sure the power supply will wait for the automation to complete the interlock circuit. You shouldn't have to reset the PS breakers to make the lamp strike. Like Gordon often says, usually the people who designed the hardware know what they are doing, and strange modifications will just downgrade the equipment.

The reason I mentioned the lamp dowser is because in the new set-up it forces the operator to use either the auto-strike feature or the manual (as I chose to do). I'm aware the lamp dowser is not connected to the auto strike system but at our house they were both connected to the auto system.

Yes Scott, they are motorized lamp dowsers. The changeover dowser (now called a "heat shield" on our Simplex Milenniums) on the projectors are also tied in to the auto system. Before the lamp dowser were disconnected from the auto system all we had to do was press the start button and automation took over everything from opening the lamp and changeover dowsers to moving the masking, dimming the houselights and closing the auditorium doors. Maybe one day they'll find a way to auto focus the things.

Hay Adam,
Check the Shunt (for the amp meter). It should have two wires (one on each end). These wires are for your auto strike unit (which is what your relay is for). Also check your relay for the correct voltage. Good luck. [Cool]

well i dont work till thurs so I'm going to have to wait on the lamphouse modle. If it helps the lamphouse is cinimicanica and its the modle where there is a set screw and the entier housing swings out to replace the bulb. As for the amps they appear to be the correct ammount for when the bulb is running.

are there seperate strikers for the auto and manual lamp settings?

Is the ignitor a square black box or is it on a long arm assembly
if it a black box the auto strike relay and control is inside
otherwise it is often a single 49volt dc relay mounted on the back wall with a serries resitor
