Ok, I'm sure I'm making this much more complicated than it should be, but I have a problem with prints winding up too loose. The platter system is Christie AW3R, and even after a print moves to another theater, it stays loose, and sometimes gets even worse, leading to many thrown prints. aahhh!

But, suffice it to say, before you go much farther you should ensure that your platter system(s) is/are properly calibrated. If the system ISN'T calibrated, anything you do will amount to little more than spit in the ocean until you do.

A quick fix: I once did much the same thing with some extra-long, heavy-duty rubber bands, stretched between the crook in the takeup control arm and the end of the platter's support arm. More rubber bands equals more tension. This won't hold up over the long haul, of course, but will work just dandy if you want snugly-wound prints now and don't feel like doing a spring overhaul.
