Hi: Look at this:

Does asomeone know this projector? It seems a nice projector that can be easily modified into a semi-portable machine.
With a very good price it has to be picked up in Los Angeles.
Kni-tron rectifier hours meter shows only 92.2 hours on it! What a pity it´s not in Spain...
As you can see, it´s a double band or Sepmag machine, but I don´t see the magnetic heads anywhere. But I think it can be adapted for 6.000 feet reels without any problems.

Those projectors were designed by Charlie Ajar. There not that bad of a machine for light service. They are pretty light to move around. They can run single strip mag for dallies work. Charlie did a lot of location projection work for films.

A few of the houses on the Bel-Air circuit in Los Angeles were equipped with these projectors.

The magnetic head is mounted on the sound drum area so you can run optical COMOPT or magnetic SEPMAG with minor adjustments. This machine is the parent that became the Christie projector.

OMG!! I ran dailies on these in the early 80s. I haven't seen one for over 20 years. The projector had a Simplex intermittent and a Xenex Pup lamphouse. It will run FWD or REV. Not terrible. Not the best, but not terrible, either.

Whatever happened to the Agars?

Yes, you can see that in the gate and trap assembly, and the sounddrum/lateral guide roller layout from the old Christie 35 machine.

Yes, it is basically an early Christie that has been repackaged into a unit for dailies use. Remember.... the early Christies used Simplex movements. I've seen one of these but I doubt that one would meet the fussy nitpicky requirements for the DP's and editors I've ran dailies for over the years. I also don't think it would take the abuse that the equipment I rented saw over the years, none of the shows I did would be considered "light use". My stuff was on most shows through the rough cut phase. Also the lamphouse parts are now made from unobtanium. Even a call to "That Extension" wouldn't turn up any parts for these. And a call to "The Other Extension" would not turn up any projector mechanisim parts either....

Tim,
I believe that the ones before the Christies existance were made from Simplex's. I remember an interlock unit that was roll around like this that had Supers and XL sound heads on it. So that may have been the pre-Christie version.

BTW: Sam, No need for any dramamine at all on the new Christie 35!! They finally seem to have it all right for once.

I believe you are thinking of the Atlas projectors made by Tom McCormick which did use the XL picture head. For some reason having to do with the take up clutches, the main drive gear and the oil pump ran backwards.
