I was given a splicer that I was told is a editors block. It has this goofy little plastic block on a spring loaded arm that stick up in the air, it appears to come down onto the film. This block has holes in the bottom of it where it comes down on the film. I belive that it was made by LA Editorial. I can not figure out how to use it. Can someone please explain how to use this splicer. I have a gillotine type that trims and punches sprockets holes thru the tape but this thing is nothing like it.... Jim Spohn

These were designed to be used with pre-perf'd tape, ie, the sprocket hole are actually pre-punched on the tape roll. The splicer is used to allow you to line up the tape's holes with the film's holes.

Thanks Mike for the information on the splicer. The tape that was given to me with it was clear with yellow "H"s on it and I couldn't figure out how to make it work, now it all makes sense. Thanks Much ... Jim Spohn

...FYI - the tape used for this splicer, being the pre-perfd tape is actually a lot stronger,being a thicker stock of mylar than the standard roll type. One knows when they run across one of these splices-just a more sturdier looking splice. Just when theese splices going through the machine is just more noiser than the roll variety.
