Has anyone mounted a Cat. 702 reader on a DP-75? If so, how is it done?

There is a bracket available from Dolby labs (essentially an L bracket with holes that match the bolt holes at the bottom of reader).

The hard part is mounting the L bracket to back or front of the projector column. Holes have to located and drilled.

It works well but looks weird.

Pete's tip of the day; Mount the 702 on the rear of the column, above the lamphouse. I thrid the comments about drilling the holes, Phillips used some fairly hefty steel! Also you must make sure that no swarf falls into the mech.

I've done FP20s that way, looks the dogs danglies!

On the 75's I've done, they need their mag heads operational, so on the back it went.

Did you use Dolby's bracket? If so, does it appear to be usable on either the front or the back? I note your comment to mount it on the rear of the column.

The Dolby bracket is Cat. 696, and they're going to fax drawings to me.

Thanks, Sam. Mark Gulbrandsen has suggested that we put a DP-75 in service that we have sitting unused, and I want to put digital sound on it before we start using it. We already have the 702. It's on the projector that we're currently using(V-18).

Yup, the standard bracket from Dobly, could be Cat696, I really can't remember.

If you mount it on the front, then you might have fun and games getting the machine close enough to the port, especially if you have to put rake on, put it on the back above hte lamphouse and it's not an issue. Or, as you've got the machine out of service, you could do what Peter Hall has illustrated. It's a lot of work but looks neat.

Peter Hall did a neat job recessing the reader. That's a nice picture he posted. But I'm a 70mm freak, and want to keep the projector able to show magnetic prints. Mounting the reader on the rear, above the lamphouse, looks like the best location for us.

Fair point on 70, however screen 2 (with it's 4m screen) would probably not ever run 70mm. We make our own welded steel L bracket, (colour matched to Kinoton I might add !) as we dont usually use Dolby penthouses and feel it's a bit rude to use their accessories on somebody elses kit. Here's a pix of screen 1 - Sam may recognise the reader (still no bloody bypass rollers however for 70 ! - not needed here but needed for the second install, one we completed last week on a DP70)

Mayfair 1 DP75, with BACP reader

Greenwich 1, (client may be in the market for some fire trap rollers I think !)

More nice photos, Peter. After seeing your front mount, and looking at our DP-75 set-up again, it looks as if that is likely to be best for us. Norman Cerda of Dolby e-mailed drawings of their plate. I'm going to order it.

Regarding the DP-70 with the reader on top, can it still accommodate 70mm without removing the reader?

On another tangent, where would you suggest mounting a 70mm DTS reader on the DP-75?

In the Warner (Vue) WestEnd we put the DTS on top of the SRD - it bolts straight on with a Century type bracket. But watch your delay settings - you are on the verge of DTS's limit (4 weeks ago we put DTS on the DP75 pictured and had a delay of I think 90)
