#4 is rated at 150 amperes so you are at the high end of the cable...depending on the length of your run #2 may be better. Silicone with a glass woven jacket cable is better but welding cable is good.

Locomotive cable is actually the safest to use for the DC runs. Its also OSHA approved.

I've always used Carol Cable's "Entertainment" series cable ...and it is UL/CSA/TUV approved...

#4 to me is under-rated for 150 amps. To be safe, I always spec NEC ratings even for short runs.

Here is a link to data on Locomotive cable. Its pretty amazing stuff, definately expensive and definately over kill!! I agree with Philo on the #4... its gonna run pretty warm!! The next size larger would be alot safer unless you're doing a VERY short run of just a foot or so....

Thanks for the info guys. We ended up running #2 welding cable.
The #2 was a little bigger than the #4, but I feel safer with it. Will find out tonight how it works.

be aware that some welding cable is not rated for above 85volts and a high output rectifier may exceed it
I use entertainment cable if it is being run in free air
It is CSA and Ul approved
