Strong Highlight IIa lamphouse (3000w)
Simplex 35 Millenium projector
MIT M4a automation

When we go to start this projector, there is commonly a delay of anywhere from 2-5 seconds, sometimes longer, before it kicks on. We can push the start button and it seems to just be dead. Then after a bit, it lights up and runs normally without interruption. This happens throughout the day, not just for the first show. The unit is about a year and a half old. I am not that familiar with Strong/Simplex as I am with Christie, so I really dont know where to even start here. One other unit was doing the same thing, only a little more rarely, maybe a few times a week.

Thanks for any pointers.

..it's an automation thingey again. Wonder if those Mitz units are playing havoc within themselves...

Nothing wrong with the STRONG setup. They perform fine by themselves (gasp! at times..lol).

Usually, with a press of the <RUN> button, a relay latches closed to begin the sequencing of the presentation - either cam-driven, or software driven.

Hate to see what would happen if you were doing a major interlock and one of your automation units decides to "fall asleep on the job" like this.

..too bad, whoever installed all of that booth setup, never heard of STRONG's CNA series-which would have been a lot better automation to go along with the rest of the system..and not have any of this "start delaying" -

Oh Monte, Monte, Monte...you should come visit Dallas and check out some of the fucked up CNA systems here and then be amazed at the 0% support from Strong. That would change your mind real damned quick. [Wink]

LOL!..that bad...? Guess being up here in no-man's land and only seeing one 8plex with CNA-100s that have actually gave me no problems (outside of one touchpad gone whacko..and STRONG sent me a replacement immediately, and bad programming from booth clowns who think they know what the frik they're doing)makes me a bit "out of the loop" then for a great deal of experiences with this units.

So your saying its a relay in the automation? We have had WAY to many problems with these relays if thats the case. The lights not coming up to full brightness was a relay as well. Are we talking the same type of relay for this issue too? Should we be buying these things by the boxload? This setup is only approx 1.5 years old.

The CNA-150s that I used did have start timers. It's just that 50% of the time they liked to count down to zero and then just sit there saying "ready to start"...among other problems.

BTW: It is an OSHA requirement that any piece of equipment that self-starts must issue an audible or visual warning...like the baggage belt at the airport. Somehow our industry must be exempt or lucky. Louis

Makes no noise other than the click of the switch. roughly 3-6 seconds later, it pops on.
