We at the Panida theater are trying to decide whether to purchase a new original style (10")reflector or a new-improved version (11") of reflector for one of our Xetron XCN-35 consoles. Neumade makes an 11" reflector which is much improved and will increase the light output by 5 foot-lamberts. Does anyone have any experience with this? If one projector has the 10" and the other has the 11", will the difference in brightness and/or color be shocking at changeover?

JIm,

Actually Big Sky makes an upgrade kit that is way better than even the upgrade Neumade reflector and somewhat comparable in price. However after installing either of them you should be able to lower the current and or focus the lamp back in the new reflector to approximate the brightness of the old one but the new one will probably have much more even illumination than the old. So yes... there will in all probablility still be some differenc but it will be for the better. Eventually-hopefully you would do replacement/conversions to both consoles.

I installed 3 of them last summer and the light putput was excellent but it was not an easy retrofit we had to re- engineer a lot of the hardware that didn't fit into a relatively new lamphouse

Have installed many Big Sky units. Remember the distance from the reflector to the film changes as well. Great light! Do both of them; it is like a new lamphouse. Louis

I thought both kits used the same reflector.

Might be the same or similar reflector but I prefer to deal with Big Sky over Neumade. Somehow Neumade seems to inflate their prices, sometimes rediclously.

Some day I'll tell you the story of the $100.00 projector belt that only costs 30 dollars.

Oh I've been forced into buying lots of those. "Yeah, go buy those belts that have been marked up by $100 and then cut the hell out of your payroll hours."

Are these upgrade kits also the best way to replace a damaged reflector on a Xetron XHN24 lamphouse?
