I need the spring wraped around the pin on the carriage that when set in the hole on the post turns on the power to the platter and the failsafe outlet on the variac.

Visited the Strong website and downloaded the parts list, but not quite sure as to what this spring is called. My best guess are these:

Take-up Stop Pin Spring (Part No.: 2468619)
Take-up Stop Pin Assembly (Part No.: 2468237)

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't you love it when that "E" clip pops off the stop pin shaft and the spring takes a flying journey in the booth where you can't find it anywhere, where most of the time it's lying underneath the console or in a dark corner?

It'd be the same.

Well, it was actually the opposite. The clip didn't come off, but the plastic piece on the pin became loose and poped off on our guy with the least amount of experience. He didn't realize there was a spring on the pin and when I found it a few days later, somebody had steped on it and crushed it. Could have even been me unknowingly, I don't know.

I'm going to presume the part is the Take Up Stop Pin Spring then.

OK, got the part. But I'm almost embarassed now to ask how exactly does this thing work?

I put the spring over the pin on the inside of the carriage. Clamped on the e-clip as Monte calls it, but it still isn't poping out as it should on the take-up. Am I missing something else? Should I pull the spring over the bushing holding the pin firm on the carriage? If I do that, I see nothing that will keep the spring in place. Any advice or mechanical draft I can get a hold on out there would be appreciated. The Potts manual has nothing but threading proceedures and trouble shooting.

Put the spring through the pin. Then the pin goes on the hole and the "E" clip would be clipped on the backside of the unit.
