I will soon get one of the projectors I was working with for 16 years!! simply for sentimental reasons since the theater shut down and the projectors are being shipped away. I am thinking of making a screening room at my house but the thing is I have single phase current [Frown]

Has anyone ever tried in converting a V5 to single phase? The projector is the gray/silver type with the two step yellow rotator start switch and two push buttons for dowser Up/Down and also an exciter switch and a framing switch.

I guess I'd start by looking at the components that use electricity and see what their individual requirements are. It might be that only the motor is 3 phase. In that case it would be just a matter of changing out the motor for a single phase unit. If that can't be done, you can get or make a phase converter to run the projector. They are easy to make/use and they work well. I only have single phase to my machine shop and through the use of phase converters I run all the machinery. It's not quite as nice as having real 3 phase, but it works

Just simply using capacitor conect motor from three phase to single phase, like any other three phase motor.

And also you must put in paralell all three phase, because some components are powered from one, and other from second phase.

Let's say ignitor is on PH1, and some vent motor is on PH2....

I think motor is only three phase device in Vic 5!

well the vic 5 is only the projector so any other device is not part of the equation
The standard moto r on many of them is by OEM and will run in eiter a Delta or Wye configuration and if connected with a switch start to run capacitor will run very well on single phase but the start and run values are different
A better solution is to get a invertor that will operate the motor on 3 phsae from a single phase supplyu
Baldor makes a good one as does the Vector line from IMO

What Gordon said. Throw out whatever slow start crap you've got for it and buy yourself a single-to-three phase variable speed drive.

You might have an easier time finding Telemecanique products where you are.

The single to three phase variable speed drives available down here put out three phase 240 volt A.C. Our normal three phase power is 415 volts A.C.So the motor needs to be rewound to run on 240volt three phase.I don't know what your standard A.C. voltage is in Cyprus Demetris but that's how it works down under.A 240 volt three phase motor has a very smooth "ramp up" and they generally run a lot cooler.

You can make a three phase "adder" with any 3 phase induction motor. You can usually find used 3 phase induction motors pretty cheap as most people don't have a use for them. It's probably the easiest cheapest thing you can do.
