After perusing the reviews section, I am interested in acquiring some of the equipment that FT's illustrious reviewers have dubbed "must-have" for every booth. In particular, I would like to order at least one Goldberg platter reel and I am interested in finding out more about the brain wrap detector for Strong platters.

In the case of the latter, I am interested in seeing if the wrap detector could be modified to produce some sort of warning alarm rather that shutting down the projector. This would make it possible for the projectionist to rectify the wrap without having to disrupt the presentation.

Where is the best place to purchase these devices? I work for Regal and am fairly certain you can't get these through iGPS. Thanks!

I would think that Regal would buy direct from the manufacturer. Are you wanting to buy wrap detectors, or modify existing ones?

We retrofitted our older-model Kinoton platters with the film tension detector that's provided for new Kinoton platters. They work well, and have eliminated film damage. We did have to put a time-delay relay in the circuit, however, to prevent nuisance shutdowns.

You should easily be able to hook up a loud alarm buzzer (Radio Shack may even carry them) through the failsafe. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it though, as once a wrap starts, you really do want things to shut down.

With Regal being a huge company, just ask your local technician responsible for servicing your projection equipment. He can answer anything you need to know on how to obtain the items. He would also have to be the one to install the wrap detector (as standard or with an alarm modification). The platter reel is a wonderful payroll saver by the way. [Wink]
