We have an intermittent sound problem in one of our DTS houses. The problem occurs during the first 3-4 minutes after starting the movie, after which it seems to fix itself. We hear an odd raspy, muffled, distorted type sound during dialogue scenes, music and sound effects all sound normal, it's just the dialogue that we hear the sound and only on Stereo Surround. It has never occurred once the film switches to DTS sound and only during the first 2 or 3 trailers. We have a DTS 6AD unit and a Simplex 5 Star soundhead. We've turned everything off and back on, unplugged everything from the DTS unit and nothing seems to be fixing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

6AD .... uh-oh..them cantankerous things... I bet that the DSP board (which is the middle board) is giving you fits. Did many switchouts/replacements of this one board.

If you got another house with a 6AD unit, swap the DSP boards between the two units and see if the prob follows the other house.

(and when you do the swap..make sure power is off...)

From your original message it sounds like you might be saying:

Before the DTS engages, you are playing trailers for 3 or 4 minutes in analog optical format. The sound quality is poor.

When DTS does become engaged, the sound is fine.

Is this true?

Yes, this is true. When the DTS trailers and/or film starts up, the sound is great. This problem only seems to occur in the first two analog trailers, and always seems to clear up on the third analog trailer. It is especially evident in the dialogue track.

Sorry, I can't seem to tell from your post whether the sound problem is occurring when the audio source is the analog reader or the DTS processor.

What happens if you shut the DTS player off and then play the film?
