Greetings,

I am just curious if any one else who has A Scanner Darkly has had any bad reel lab issues. Reel 4 of my print #41 had complete digital fail, and extensive color shifting (mostly fading from blue to yellow). It also had SR fade out. The replacement reel I ordered just came in. I put in on just in time for tonights 10:20 show. The replacement reel playing right now gets VERY dark at parts (almost black) and some digital fail. The replacement reel was from a used print, however I'm not sure where it came from and the Network Curior was very rushed and wanted to leave before I could really ask him any questions. Why the previous theater didnt notice the issue i'm not sure.. Regardless, any one else having problems? And how much crap can I give ETS about sending me another defective reel?

Hey, I saw the first show of that at your theater! Other than the lab issues, very nice presentation. I'm going to go there more often.

Color shifts, especially at the head and tails, or near a lab splice, may be due to safelight fogging, where the unprocessed film was exposed to a safelight for too long. When the film gets fogged, both picture and sound may be affected.

The few prints that I've run in the last two months here in NYC have run fine with no problems.

hmm, i just saw this, and reel 4 was a little sketchy, but not as here described. there were little splotchy patches here and there throughout the reel, as if a rodent with dirty feet had trod all over it, or someone had spritzed it with the world's tiniest spraypaint can.

it could have been redeveloper splotches, i suppose. they never seem to look the same way twice.

If the print has a silver + dye analog soundtrack, there is a possibility that the marks you see are soundtrack developer splashes. If the viscous caustic soundtrack developer splashes or seeps in to the image area, it will leave a silver deposit.

Soundtrack developer application issues were a significant source of print waste and make-overs.
