what are some good super simplex tech in the central to northern michigangan area?
we need to bring someone in as the projectionist cant figure out how to get the gear off in order to try and put one off a dummy projector on...the instruction mnual doesnt say HOW to take it off...just to do it...

Kara, if he doesn't know what he's doing, don't let him near that machine, dear! If you're planning to keep it in operation, you're better off to let sleeping dogs lie. Don't end up also having to replace other gears and/or shafts because they got buggered up by someone untrained in precision machine service.

Check out these FilmGuard dealers to help find someone in your area. Many theatre supply houses also have service departments.

You know, with all of the individuals in here making comments on the SuperSimplex, maybe she sould foot the bill for one of us to go there and get her problem fixed so the show can get back on the screen...?

It's not that hard working on a Super. If I can, or anybody do a oblique gear changeout on a E-7, one can definitely work on a Super. I bet WOLK or LaVezzi still make parts for the SuperSimplex.

Its gust not simply changing out the gear(s)~ one also needs to look at the gear backlash and install the proper thickness of factory supplied shims!

An inexperienced person SHOULD NOT attempt to replace gears!

Perhaps you could guide them in the rebuild over the phone... Neither Wolk nor LaVezzi has made parts for them in ages... There are gobs of parts sitting at dealers though.... There is always another machine too...

I'd volunteer but I'm stuck in Rawlins, WY with a blown differential. At least there is a Sanfords here so there is one known good place to eat in town. They have the best dam salads in the world! The other kown place to eat is the railroad diner.

Thx Mark for the updates from both - didn't know about that.

(DANG, I've been to both restaurants there in Rawlings when we head to KS every other summer for wife's fam reunion.. and I agree...food at those two places can't be beat..)

Company van took a turn for the worse? .. bummer.

I don't kow. To avoid gaining too much weight on a long trip I try to stick with Slads. I eat breakfast and then if there's a Sanfords nearby I eat a large salad about 3 PM and then no dinner, perhaps a snack though. Two things they have that no one else has is fresh deep fried okra and anadouille sausage... they will sub the sausage on a salad in place of something else if you ask.... best sausage on the planet! Wonderbar makes their own fresh potato chips and has the best tasting beef I've ever had. At 249,987 miles the differential let go. It had been making a ticking sound since I arrived in Casper from Cheyenne a week and a half ago... Had a mechanic tear it down and put in new bearings, seals and such but he couldn't find any other signs of problems. So had been driving it around town and made a left turn at a light and kabam! HE took the cover off and it was obvious he missed a crack in the ring gear or something along that line. Another one of our employees is here with the big trailer and truck to haul it back to SLC.... I happen to like this van so I have no objections to it being repaired... I just have to be back to go to Showeast on Monday.

Sorry about the mispelling. I SWEAR I read it off the projector as Symplex...but I realize now it was just the swirl from the "p" [Embarrassed]

SUPPOSEDLY we are supposed to have someone coming up tomorrow to fix it.
I personally think its been down WAY too long...it broke Sunday....tomorrow is Friday.

ETA:
I guess tomorrow Mike from GR is coming up to help us. YAY!!
