I just bought a CP200 complete with Aux unit.
Since the unit has been upgraded with cat 560,517 and 108C, I was thinking of using my spare cat 108C in the Aux unit and connect my Bauer Selecton II O on proj 3.

Question : is this a wise idea and should I connect the 16mm mono or stereo ?
Or is connecting to non-sync 2 or 3 a better course ?

The best way, other than a Non-Sync imput on a CP200 for 16mm Audio is connect to a Mag (Centre) imput either Mag 1 or 2

I do a fair number of 16mm installations...still and even with the CP200.

There are a number of ways to accomplish it.

First off, you can use the optical preamp as you noted though its parameters will not be optimized for 16mm (lower frequency response for 16mm). I have found that they tend to be a bit noiser.

If you already have a good preamp for your 16mm there are many ways. I do not recommend the Non-Sync inputs since they will play out of Left and Right always.

MagB Center is good if you are not using the MAG inputs for say MAG or perhaps to do some Pro Logic decoding.

My personal favorite 16mm entry point is to solder to the pads of the first Cat 141 card (SK4 terminal B2). There is a non-through hole pad on the back to solder to. I then use the "FUTURE 3" line to active it. You will have to connect Future 3 to pin B13. Future 3 will kill L,R, Le, and Re further down the line by sending them to unused inputs thus leaving you only with center. You then only have to program the format...I choose format 16 for obvious reasons. The diode locations I use are 199, 200, and 206 on the Optical card. They activate, Valid Buss, Future 3 and Mono control lines. The Academy filter is left in though you have the choice of removing it by adding one more diode.

Since the Bauer has a pre-amp I think the method of Steve is certainly worth looking into.
