Hi
I have Vic 8's(one with a Xebex lamphouse,one with Super Lume-X lamphouse).On each lamphouse there is a motor/gear box attached to automatically open and close the lamphouse douser.
The problems we have are:
Gearbox....chewing gears out & gears not meshing correctly(probably due to worn bushes)
Motor stays very hot as it is on all the time when the lamphouse douser is opened or closed.

Is there a better way to do this? If so is there a better motor/gearbox to use(one of the motors is from Strong)and can it be wired up so the motor is not driving all the time?

I have used several of teh ones from strong and had no issues but they do run hot
ORC used a rotary solinoid

Hi Ian,
Jim rigged up a washing machine solenoid with some springs in our Xebex lamphouse and it opens the dowser when the projector motor starts. Cheap, but it works.

If that suits, I'll ask Jim to send you more details.

On the Strongs I've used (Ultra 80) that had the motorized douser...I did not use the circuit with a continious on...I instead used the Changeover pulse from the automation to open/close the douser. Other than making sure the pulse is long enough to ensure complete douser travel...all have worked great for years now.

Hi Ian,

I once used a motorised douser set-up on Xebex lamphouses and they worked very well. The motor did shut off after it had performed the open or close function, so I imagine it was triggered by the automation.

Cinerama used a counter balanced paddle activated with a small solenoid and a small spring. The entire assembly mounted on the Century in placed of the shutter rear opening casting. While it is probably not up to the task of long term heat disipation; it answered the problem of how to make a very large changeover possible. Louis

I knew there would be a better way to do it.
Steve I am using the Panastereo CA2000.....the only thing I can find in the manual is the "Zipper Open/Close" terminals(5&6)on the relay card.....and the ability to set the output relays "pulse time".Would this be how I can drive the lamphouse douser?
I'm still a bit confused how I'm going to drive a 115ac motor in one direction and then the other direction. [Confused]

Yes...use the Zipper Open/Close terminals on the CA2000...Christ you can get that automation to do most anything anyway.

On the Strong douser I worked with...there was an open/close switch ...I used those wires and did away with the switch.

Another nice thing about this method is that the douser handle may now be manually used too. The idea of driving a motor into a stall just seemed silly, and in this application, totally unecessary.
