The majority of prints we run have beed pre-soiled by other cinemas, so our media gets fairly dirty on the first run through. For that reason, we used to change it more often but, after reading what other Techs do, we are changing media after 20 runs. What is recommended?

Of course, when we get a new print, the media stays relatively clean for many more screenings.

Hi Ron, I use to wait 3 weeks to change pads, The discolored pads dont seem to affect the film. ie no scratching and the prints always looked spotless.

My favorite resurection story with filmguard was a very well worn. 60's print of Thunderbirds are go, The colors after being treated, simply looked great and base scrathes( ummm lots!) slowly disapeared!

Thanks Cameron. Perhaps everyone should be required to use FilmGuard before posting in the Film Handler's Forum.

Relating to your post in the Install thread, I agree. Brad deserves respect for his work and we should at least be polite to our host, even if we don't always agree.

Sometimes it is our common language that causes disagreements.

Unless the print is especially dirty, I have found changing the pads out somewhere between 21-35 passes is ideal.
