Where do prints go when they die?

The prints get shipped to the depot and then, where do they go when they are useless to be stored. Do they get burned or recycled? Or do they go to heaven? [Smile]

Mostly, they get shredded and recycled into various types of plastic products, film leader, etc. See this page on the Kodak web site for information about one company that provides these services.

A handful of prints of each title are saved for future bookings.

Kodak VISION Color Print Films are on ESTAR (polyester) base, and can be recycled. It's the same plastic as most beverage bottles (PETE 1).

North American prints get sent to Kodak FPC in Mountain City Tennessee. European prints get recycled at the Kodak FPC facility in Italy.

And why the studios don't sell them to collectors and museums and film societies, especially not that you can get the title in a variety of formats....no rational reason why anyone who wants a 35mm print shouldn't be able to buy it.

If you purchased the 35mm film directly from the distributor would you still have to pay a % of gross for screenings where admission fees were charged?

Yes. Distributors expect to be paid for any public showings, even those without admission charge.

Ahh, so THAT'S why so many collector's prints come outta the East Tennessee, North Carolina area! [Eek!]

I wonder what happens to the copies of 'The Inconvenient truth'. They can't be burned or trown away. They must be recycled in some kind of fuel or plastic trees... [Big Grin]

I think you will have to pay for every public screening, because of the copyrights... Do you have to pay separately for the soundtrack and movie in the US too?
