I just installed a Xetron XH-2000 onto our Simplex XL, and have about 3" of space between the front of the lamphouse and the back of the projector. I had my equipment dealer order a nose cone from Xetron, but it's for the newer models.
I have foil taped over the gap to keep the light down, but I need to find a more permanent solution. Any suggestions?

I used a piece of metal expanding duct (like exhaust duct) between the old Christie lamp and the back of the XL at the Court Street Theatre here in Saginaw. You can see Brad's photos of it in the single screen Pictures section.

Nothing wrong with that! I've done that several times myself. In fact you can sometimes match the doameters of both lamphouse and projector better this way. Also any heating/cooling sheet metal shop can manufacture a schnood for you. Also while you're in there throw out the old innefficient Xetron mirror and install a new Big Sky Mirror conversion... you'll get three times the light output!

We put in a new Big Sky lamp house at the Court. The light from our 2,300 Watts exceeds the 3,000 Watt Christie.
Also, the lamp house fits right up to the projector as the optics move inside the lamp house to the proper distance and not the entire housing moving to make the distance from reflector to the aperture. Great stuff!

@Mark: you've mentioned that before. Where can I get a Big Sky mirror, and how much will it cost me?

Any dealer of equipment should be able to source Big Sky products. The nose cone is a little problematic; we take the "new" one and run it through a bandsaw to make it fit the old lamphouse. Note that there are several sizes since that lamphouse had to fit several projectors without being moved.
FYI: the people at Big Sky were once the entire staff of Xetron; the company moved; they didn't.

You can go to our web page and e-mail or call our sales department. Also I reccomend that who ever installs it use the USL Light Meter to ensure it is tweeked to perfection. These mirrors when set up carefully are capable of very flat light at about three times the brightness of the old Xetron Reflector. We did a 3kw conversion about months ago and ended up with 22fl on scope/45' screen with a DP-70... and no visible flicker because of the high speed shutter in the projector. Over 22fl it flickered noticably which is normal.

Thanks for the kind words on our products. A lot of development time went into the mirror design.
As for the nosecone, we have longer nosecones from our consoles available that have a flange, and could be adapted. These nosecones are used normally for Kinoton and Cinemecanicca projectors.
