Hi all! I just received a print of OLD JOY with a white paint-like substance on the soundtrack throughout the entirety of the film. This is a new print, so i was wondering if this was a factory mistake or just gross negligence.

if you have some info that you can give to aid presentation of this print, it would be much appreciated!

Usually older prints have shoe polish, white out, or lumber crayon marks at the reel changes but everywhere? hmmmm

does the soundtrack work? if it does i'd leave it alone. If it dosent I would get a replacement print.

yeah its running right now. i have heard of the shoe polish and such to mark reel changes, but this is some thick stuff! it is a new print, and its working fine. do you think that it will wear off eventually?

Watch your projector if you start to see flaking i guess the answer is yes.... i'd be curious as to what that stuff is... hmmmm

Sometimes prints are "rejuvinated" and in the process they get rewashed and then usually re edge waxed and that could be older lubricants left behind on the soundtrack area
