Anyone having problems with Pirates dropping out of SRD into SR, we've one screen with a problem? The adds and trailers are ok(4-5 on the CP-650) but pirates is pushing 7 or even 8 and ossasionally dropping out.

Not on Pirates prints I've seen but all the Spiderman prints I've seen playing had bad DTS tracks on reel 6.

2's & 3's on our DA20's & CP500 w/Dolby penthouse readers.

That's odd. I was just looking at that yesterday and was pleased to see solid 0-1s here on CP650s with Kinoton basement readers (and FilmGuard). Sounds like you need to calibrate your readers.
Posted by Steve Guttag (Member # 268) on 05-28-2007, 08:05 AM:
It is not uncommon for Kinoton basement readers to track better than penthouse readers.
Also, I'm not sure Dolby uses the same algorythms for determining the number on the CP650 as they used on the DA20. Afterall...who would know...an F is an F but the rest...there could be number deflation!

Will have a go at the readers when I get in but with the adds and trailers being ok.....?

Constant 5 all way through the film with some of the ads and trailers hitting as low as 1 !!
Cinemeccanica basement reader, Dolby DA20 CP65 combo print filmguarded and PTRs run all shows.

Do not touch. Get your engineer in to look at them.

R.1 is a 5 for us, while the following reels are in the 3 to 4 range.
Trailers ahead of the feature were at 2 and 3, except for a new Dolby BEE trailer, which has an error rate of 6. Hmmm.
It's a CP500 with a Cat. 702 reader.

Looking at 3 different prints at another theater here running Christie projectors with BACP penthouses and FG. Steady 1s in two houses and 1-2s in the third house.

3s and 4s on both of my prints.
Posted by Sam King (Member # 4029) on 05-28-2007, 11:26 PM:
How do you guys get 1's?!?? We rarely fail, but never do we get 1's. We are typically in the 2-5 range in all 18 screens. We use Kelmar basement digital/analog readers and CP650's.
Posted by Brad Miller (Member # 2) on 05-28-2007, 11:59 PM:
It is all due to the alignment of the reader and the cleanliness of the print. Remember, dirt that is so small you don't see on screen is dirt big enough for the SRD camera to see and block part of the data.
Posted by Jeremy Weigel (Member # 4208) on 05-29-2007, 12:12 AM:
And be sure to clean your gate rails and bands between shows. Build up on the gate rails and bands will wear down the SRD track.
Posted by Brad Miller (Member # 2) on 05-29-2007, 02:15 AM:
Very true, very true, but remember if your print is clean and properly lubricated, it won't be leaving anything behind in the projector.

I get fairly constant 2-4's on almost everything. No dropouts to report.
I had 3 Spider prints. None of them had issues.

Prints which have been through subtitling usually run no lower than 3.

When we opened our 4 prints of Pirates, we had steady 3's on all of them. I rarely see anything better than 3 for Disney prints. Lionsgate usually seems to be the best for us, delivering solid 1's, while new Fox prints we get are 4's at best.

Justin, I have the same problem with Pirates we have ran it from the 24th April it now runs on 7 and drops out regular, just out of interest what copy number do you have ours is ENG 544
Posted by Rob Hibbitt (Member # 1584) on 06-21-2007, 12:37 PM:
I am having the same problems with both my pirates prints on CP650's, adds and trailers running at 3 then film 7-8 and sometimes fail. Have set both 650's to run in SR.
It seems to be only people in UK having this problem!
Posted by John Wilson (Member # 269) on 06-21-2007, 02:20 PM:
I'd ask if you guys are running with Film Guard, but that question would be redundant.
Get it...your problems will be over.
Posted by Justin Gorka (Member # 3727) on 06-24-2007, 10:11 AM:
We don't use film guard as our bosses don't like us adding foreign material to other peoples property. The Trailers and adds played fine on 3-4 so was a print problem. Was sent back some time ago now and we've had no further problems in that screen.
I don't see the need for Film Guard if you are running a decent Cinema with good quality staff, equipment and most imprtantly silm stock!
Posted by Steve Guttag (Member # 268) on 06-24-2007, 01:50 PM:
Don't propose it as adding foreign material but as keeping the wear and tear you ARE adding to a minimum on other people's property. If the studios didn't want you to do it, they would sa so. Remember too...ALL film are supposed to be lubricated (Edgewaxed) and most are not so treated...or so Kodak claims.

Greetings once again Justin
Yes indeed. Big Brother is here. Do not use FilmGuard. I believe you know the materials you can use. Keep to purchases through the MK office!

Tend to get what I want if I ask MK nicely! I won't mention the RS order system though!

That's a common thought trail...until you start running with it. Then you'll wonder why on earth it took you so long.
As far as the film companies not wanting it on their prints, that's rubbish. That's just a good excuse for the owners not to have to pay up and buy FilmGuard. Seriously, the print looks better, is dirt free, and runs better. It has no detrimental effects to the print whatsoever. There are prints 10 plus years old that had FG on them and they are still fine. Identical prints left untreated are in not such a great condition. Plus, that print is going to be around for what...three months tops when it then will have an axe put through it and destroyed. Why on earth would they give a shit if you put it through a cleaning system?

Let's see if I have this right....This industry has plenty of money for D-cinema, but Film Guard costs too much? How idiotic can you get? Louis
Posted by Blaine Young (Member # 3992) on 06-25-2007, 04:27 PM:
Issue could also be faulty reels. We had 5 prints of "Shrek" and R2 on one print had a completely worthless SRD track.
