I'm trying to wire up a motor on a century r-3 soundhead. All the wires were cut when the projector was uninstalled.

I would have assumed the slow start resistor was wired in series with the starter coils but the motor only has two terminals, does the resistor just go in series with the motor? Seems an odd way of doing it.

Judging from your picture, the resistor goes in series with the motor. With only 2 connection points, there can be no other way. Besides that coil looks similar in power & resistance to the 200 watt 5 ohm resistor we once used (in changeover days). Louis

normaly the hoovers up here were connected with a 40 ohm 100 watt in serries with the start winding
other motors I usually put a 200watt 1.5ohm in series with the entire motor
