Hi there, We have Strong AP3 platters in 3 of our 4 screens, and I was wondering if there's any particular maintenance that's required regularly for the motors. Got two that have suddenly got a bit 'noisy'. Wasn't sure if there's a particular way of greasing the things and thought I'd ask advice before having a look.
I've checked around and unfortunately can't see any manuals that mention anything about motor maintenance.
Thanks in advance,
John

What precisely does "noisy" mean? Like what is the noise you're getting?

The bearings on the brush side get full of carbon as the brushes wear. Replace those bearings and if the commutator is worn it can also be turned for a clean up and fitted with new brushes. Be sure to let the new brushes seat for about 8 hours before re-timming it. Also you may find it necessary to change out the sleeve on the end of the shaft in order to get the timming right... the rebuilt motor..and any new motor will have less torque than the old one due to recent changes in the build of the motor. All the parts are available from US,or W.W. Grainger, or the motor manufacturer.

Chris - it's making quite a noticeable whirring sound, kinda like it's dried out or something (which is why I thought it may need greasing in some way).
Mark - thanks for the info regarding the brushes, will take a little look at them.
