We finally received our custom Sony 3000 sprockets from LaVezzi. They needless to say look beautiful and are miles ahead in quality of the factory Sony alumnium sprocket, we did finally receive our shipment of Sony sprockets from Sony... took 9 minths! We sent em all back since we had already had LaVezzi put these in production. We still have to test em although but I don't expect any problems.

Will these sprockets be available to anyone from their webstore? Or were these custom made for your company only?

We had a limited number made... I think it was just 24... mainly just to keep the Sony's in theaters we service running as long as possible... er at least as long as there are SDDS tracks. Customers paid alot of $$ for these systems and the 3000 has been a pretty reliable performer and the occasional 8 channel mix is always fun. I will be testing these next week on several local units so will let you know more after I do that. Also, the encoder attachment from the back of the old sprocket has to be re-mounted on the new sprocket. This mounting and adjustment is strictly a shop job and requires a dial indicator capable of resolving .0001". If you have one and can do this thats fine otherwise you'll have to send us your sprocket and we will move and align the encoder attachment for you. This will be included in the final price of the sprocket... which will be well under the price of the junk quality sprocket Sony is offering.

Wow - fantastic workmanship there. Is the precision of the encoder mounting to ensure exact concentricity Mark?

I mount the sprocket in a collett in one of our lathes and use a dial indicator to align the concentricity of the encoder hub to .001". About the same tolerance if you were installing a new video head assy on a VTR. Sony made these a loose fit for some reason or other.... perhaps they couldn't hold the tolerance that tight.
