Hello: IŽve just won an auction on Ebay Germany for a couple of a Bauer B14 Studio take-up reel arms. The arms are motorized and have reduction gears and clutch friction adjustment. They are originally intended for 900 mtrs. reels. I want to use them with my portable 35mm projector and would like to enlarge them with a piece of metal to take-up 1.800 mtrs. reels but I donŽt know if theyŽll have strenth enough to take-up those larger reels. Anyone has done this? What do you think about? IŽll thank your opinions.

I am not familiar with the one in question
If it is a torque motor often there is a power resistor in serries and changing its value might help
otherwise changing the gear ratio may be required

The B series "tank" studio projector take-up is similar in concept to the Bauer Selecton 16mm studio projector. The clutch is very gentle on a full reel; with today's mylar based film you may get 1200 meters with no problems. It is probably best to set up a test jig on your portable and some junk film to "smoke test" the unit. Maybe there are people at Kinoton who would know since they are the present provider of Bauer parts.
