One of our Scope lenses suddenly can not be focused any more. Other than someone dropping it, could there be another reason for this happening? I tried adjusting the lens's location in the housing (and thus changing the distance), but that did not work. Any ideas anyone?

Does the focus change as the movie progresses? If so it could be you have a loose element in the lense and as it heats up the focus shifts.

There may be the possibility that the lens has been "cooked" by allowing light through the aperature for an extended period of time.

Do you know if this may have happened at the end of a show where the automation did not shut down properly for some reason?

I have had Schnieder anamorphs just go soft for no apparent reason a few years ago
they had to be sent to Century Optics to readjust the internal elements that apparently had a habit of shifting over time with heat

Have you taken the lens out and looked through it? Is it clear? I once had a lens lose its seal and it fogged up. Be sure to check after it has been in use in case there is water vapor the turns to fog with the heat. Guessing a lose element is your problem.

Thanks for the ideas. Either the tech or myself have tried all these. I do think someone has dropped it, but can not be sure. Will have to send it in for repair I guess. Who would be good for that?
