I've got a rapid popping sound in my front right channel it's present in both the auditorium and the booth monitor. The popping is present in both SRD and SR.

I was first made aware of it during the last showing of Chronicles of Narnia tonight and it's there during the midnight showing of Indy. I can't say if it started before today, but the problem was not present when I watched Narnia in the same auditorium last Thursday. I haven't been made aware of any complaints.

My booth monitors are only wired for the amp output so I don't know if it's from the processor or not.

Auditorium has CP-500 with QSC amps. I have verified that the film is properly set in the film path and the sound gate is closed.

A CP500, eh? First things first. Reboot it and then see if it continues. Those are known for bizarre glitches.

had gobs of these experiences before: flaky power supplies, noisy card (which you take the cards out and reseat them, esp the CAT-671 cards..), cracks in the backplanes... et.al.

If rebooting doesn't help, my first suspect would be the right channel eq card. Switch it to the left and see if the problem travels with it.

A bit more info. The problem is in both the left and right channels. It's present during non-sync as well as in SR and SRD.

I swapped the right and center outputs from the amp to the booth monitor and the problem moved to the center channel. I did the same thing with the left and center with the same results. Left, center, and right are all on separate amps.

I'll wait until tomorrow to see if the problem persists after rebooting.

For my reference, is it proper to post additional information as a reply to the original question or edit to the question?

How are your amps set up? Do you use the samp amp for both left and right channels?

Thanks for the input everyone. The problem seems to be gone after everything was turned on this morning.

Have you ever noticed this type of problem to be a precursor to a part going bad? Or does it appear to just be some random thing?

Like I said, it is a known thing with CP500s just needing a reboot. You could've done that between shows. It only takes a minute. [Wink]
