Quick question about the "brains" on this platter system. I have one that is running slow, is there any way to adjust the speed quickly manually at all or should I send it in for repair? Thanks

Which style of brain do you have, reed switch or micro switch? Which style of drive card do you have? There are at least four types. Check to see if the 50 watt ceramic resistor has actually melted off its ceramic coating from temperatures hotter then the interior of the Earth... then you need a new drive board. Which motors do you have, at least three versions? In Utaw we call these platters "The Neurotic Platter System" for very good reasons, not that I want to sound negative about them [thumbsup]

You didn't mention if the problem was on takeup or payout.
Is it running fast, or slow? It would also help to know which model you have. (although I'm by no means an expert on these.

To answer your your final question- - I recently had to set up two of these that had been sitting in a warehouse for several years. After doing the installation "by the book" I found it was possible for me to successfully fine tune the speed 'on the fly' using the adjustable restistors. But be careful- - they can get pretty hot and you don't want to short your screwdriver to anything metal while you're doing this.

I agree with Mark...they are pretty neurotic. But the prob is slow payout and I will have to get the rest of the info when I go in today.

I was just curious if it could possibly as easy as the adjustments on the cfs/esp plates. however I hate those also but it is pretty easy to adjust the speed while the brain is being used.

Yes, it would be helpful to know what is running too slow. If only the payout deck is too slow, most likely you can simply adjust the payout feed arm using an allen wrench (I forget the size.) If both the payout and takeup are too slow, the control board may need adjusting or replacing.

FYI: Each deck has it's own speed control, so if there is a problem, usually only one deck will be affected. You can swap control 'pods' (the box with the takeup swing arm) to another deck to help isolate the problem. If all decks are too slow, then I would suspect the main transformer, as it is the only thing that is shared.
