so I have this dts 6ad. The complaint was the volume fluctuates from trailer to trailer. Well of course it's going from analog to digital. I did an Achain and set the dolby levels. It still has a big drop going into analog eventhough everything is accurate. I even played with the automation offsets. no changeHas anyone else had this problem?

Have you tried playing Dolby Jiffy to see if the analogue output levels are accurate

The DTS levels themselves could be inaccurate. Don't mess with those without the proper test equipment.

I seen this over & over again with the 6AD, the digital is louder than the analog, even if the "A" chain is at reference, the digital is louder, I talked to DTS, they said if the levels are at reference line the D & A will be the same, No They Are Not !!! I raise the analog input level two dots above reference line, problem solve, analog & digital level is now the same, can't tell when digital drops to analog & vise verser....by doing this I never heard any distortion in analog, always sound great. Try raising the input level (2) dots above reference & see....

Check the automation level offsets and if necessary set the analogue higher and the digital lower

Interesting. Just a few months ago, I wanted to test this myself, so after I did my A-chains, I went into one of the auditoriums and had the booth operator switch back and forth between DTS and SR several times. I heard absolutely no difference, to the point that I had to actually ask him over the radio if he switched formats yet (which he had). This was with the optical levels at the reference line. So I wonder if the issue you describe perhaps only occurs with certain software versions? Just a thought.
