Anyone using a Smart Afterburner with a Dolby CP65, and a DTS 6D?

How did you wire,... cable etc?

Did you need a break out board?

Hi Paul,

I've used the Afterburners with DTS 6D and Panastereo. The easiest and neatest way to connect is to use multicore cable and make up the leads yourself - I don't know if you'll be able to get hold of the correct breakout boards. I've always had to chassis ground the Afterburner, to get rid of the hum. You have to solder a link on the PCB inside somewhere - the instructions for this are in the manual.
I think they're great units. The tacky image of the aeroplane on the front really winds up the more-serious people in the industry. I tend not to compress the sub bass at all, but only the full-range channels. I would use the DTS setup disc and play centre channel pink noise, and set the threshold to just start compressing at this level. Works nicely, and makes the films sound pleasant again!
It should also cut your electricity bill by about $1 per year, as you'll be using less amplifier power. [Wink]

Mark,
The full range channels ...guns.. cannons...explosions.......some music...etc, seem to be a little to much with DTS then the dialog is to soft if the fader is turned down..and all is in a 33ft by 22ft room.
The Afterburner seems to be the fix........just have to get it installed right.

Thanks for the info on the additional ground, and the cabling idea.......I'm working on the pin out as Dolby and Smart have different out puts for L C R surround SW Gd etc.
Glad to hear someone is using one of these.
