Is it posible to use a SH1000 motor on a RCA 1040? If memory serves me right, the RCA used a Baldor motor and the SH100 motor had a Simplex data tag on it. Also, were the shaft lengths different, and what about the mounting brackets? I beleive that both soundheads had the same gears?

Yes, but with the following parts. MI-1040 has no flywheel so the motor and mount is shorter. You need a MI-1050 motor mount for the extra flywheel length. I believe the MI-9030 & 9050 motor mounts work also. RCA used Robyns & Meyers and Simplex used Leyland motors. Both flywheel motors should interchange.

All the soundhead gearbox and projector drive gears are different between RCA and Simplex equipment.

Dick is correct on all counts,as usual.The Robbins&Meyers flywheel mounted on a taper and the Leland flywheel was keyed to the shaft.

Why not just power it with a Hit And Miss engine !!! Those wrere popular back in the days of SH-1000s. Hey, this one even has a speed governer so you won't have any WOW! They also require very little attention, you could even adapt it to run off of old popper oil...

And of course the added benefit of the hit and miss engine is that it would mask any projector noise that might be leaking into the auditorium.
