The bulb wont ignite without using the manual lamp bypass button until projector has fired up. I replaced the igniter and the igniter relay. Still upon starting the ignition system does not attempt to work.

Replace the auto ignitor board..and also check that the rectifier is outputtting enough open-circuit voltage.

Actually check the open circuit voltage first (should be in excess of 90-120 volts DC) and if that's low, the rectifier has issues.

Anywhere you want. Usually it is easiest at the rectifier end. Just make sure the lamp does not attempt to strike while your meter is connected -- the high voltage spike can (and will) fry the meter.

If so, then the voltage can be read directly at the lamphouse. The amp meter should have a button next to it where it says "press for volts" or something similar. The lamphouses also have a trimpot which can be adjusted to trigger the igniter at various voltages. Sometimes all it takes is to turn the trimpot slightly clockwise and the igniter will be triggered much earlier. There is also a protective circuit with a reset button which sometimes pops out.

Since it will only light with the projector running I bet someone wired the 120 to the ignitor from the projector motor circuit

If the lamp strikes manually but not automatic, check the Zener diode on the auto strike relay, 9 our 10 times this is the item at fault for auto strike, I would also check the 100 ohm/100watt resistor, check with meter or turn on the lamp for a few seconds, turn off the lamp, feel the resistor to see if it is warm to touch, if it is, the resistor is OK....also check the solder connections on that resistor to see if it is loose...good luck on your mission
