Been running a used DA20 through a Cp55 with split surrounds, sound readers are new Ultra Stereo Dolby digital penthouse readers.

Everything was working fine for about 4 months... but recently we lost all sound!. The processor is reading the sound but not sending it out to the CP55. It dosen't even drop back to SR as the processor thinks everything is fine. We hooked the DA20 to a computer and it seems to be reading the signal fine.

Any ideas...? we think it might be a heat issue as thats the only factor that has changed, its hotter in the booth. Or has a board gone?

Anyway we can't use it till we figure this out...we are now back to SR and DTS (when we get discs)

The Cat 611A is likely your problem. Before going crazy...cycle the processor type select rotary switch around...it is possible it has gotten noisy.

If you have any other DA20s...swap the Cat 611A...it probably will move with the card.

This may be a ailly question.... Have you checked the cables between the units? possibly replace or swap them (or plug them back in [Smile]

). I'd swap parts with another setup if possible (as Steve suggested).

Da20 fixed... it was an over heating problem, nothing to do with any cards. Our Projectionist installed two fans one on the back, one inside. Now everything works fine. It werid that the Da20 has no fans in it... plus the heat sink is pretty small. Our booth is not air conditioned.

Not unusual. The DA20 makes a lot of heat. They don't do well in full racks, they really need at least 1U open above and below and do better with a 2U vented panel above and 2U free below.
Or leave the front cover off, and (bonus) you can see the flashy lights as well!
The usual rack fans that suck air in or out of the rack don't help since Dolby didn't put any vent holes in the front pane.

Don't leave the front cover off, it's part of the screening, all sorts of RF oddities can escape!
